Fifty Years … and Counting!

Tis’ the season of hustle and bustle…the days between Halloween and New Year’s Eve I suppose that’s why it’s also the season of reflection and stock taking…and hopefully counting one’s blessings while looking toward the year ahead. It’s in the spirit of this latter seasonal attribute (I’m sure you have plenty enough of the former) that we at Meyer Sign & Advertisingshare a few of our year-end reflections with the community that has made another year possible.

2014 will be remembered as a good year for our company — one in which we saw the fruition of efforts made over many previous years. To begin with, we marked the 40th anniversary of our company’s current headquarters on Old Highway 99 (Meyer Sign & Advertising was founded in Mount Vernon in 1956). The building we’ve inhabited since then was one we actually purchased as the Chevron display at the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair. We wrote a little story about our connection with the Fair not long ago, and I think you’ll get a kick out of reading it.

This has also been a year in which we’ve continued to focus some recently acquired capital assets on providing the most state-of-the-art signage services possible to our customers. Like almost every industry you can think of these days, ours is shaped by the market dynamics of new technologies, most notably LED (see our recent interview with general manager Ken Hitt). Adapting to these technologies is not only what sharpens our competitive edge, but more importantly expands the creative options and services we deliver. In effect, we’re voting withour pocketbooks on being around for at least another four decades.

Last but not least among our many blessings are the relationships we’ve built with Western Washington communities over the years. We’ve done some good things together. We’ve added to the glory of an early 20th Century icon, Mount Vernon’s Lincoln Theatre, and brought the high-tech vibe of the 21st Century to an event center in Everett. What we’re most proud of, however, is our success in helping small business owners get recognized, as we shared in a recent story about Sweet Bliss Frozen Yogurt in Stanwood, Washington.

We look forward to being a part of many more small business success stories in the year to come…and beyond. And in reflecting further on our blessings, we thank all of our customers, friends, associates and, last but not least, our families, for making our jobs possible — and for being the best part of such a wonderful place to call home.

On behalf of our staff at Meyer Sign & Advertising, Happy New Year!
